Cypress Mayor Pro Tem Rob Johnson and Council Member Mariellen Yarc had the exciting opportunity to get a close up view of Cypress resident, Kentucky Derby and Preakness winner California Chrome at the Los Alamitos Race Course recently. Mayor Pro Tem Johnson and Council Member Yarc also had the pleasure of meeting co-owner Steven Coburn and trainer Art Sherman.
Bred in California and trained at the Los Alamitos Race Course in Cypress, California Chrome was cheered on by the crowd upon his return there.
“It was such a thrill to meet the trainer and owner of such a magnificent horse,” said Council Member Yarc. “They were so friendly, and just beamed about how blessed they've been with California Chrome. Then we got to actually meet the horse – what a beauty! Spirited guy – ate the treat ride out of my hand and nuzzled me for more.”
