In an emergency meeting held Thursday evening, the Los Alamitos city council learned that a spike in cases was attributable to the Alamitos West skilled nursing home.
Mayor Richard D. Murphy said on Friday that city manager Chet Simmons and emergency consultant Ron Roberts briefed the council in an emergency meeting Thursday evening.
City officials are doing everything possible to monitor the developments, but Murphy said that the Orange County Health Department has ultimate authority over supervising the outbreak.
Numbers reported by the Event-News Enterprise reported yesterday were correct, he said, and there was not much beyond that the city was able to do. He said all safety precautions in the city’s emergency plans are being followed.
According to the California Department of Public Health website, Alamitos West in Los Alamitos is reporting significant numbers of cases and deaths.
The site said Alamitos West has reported coronavirus cases involving 38 residents, less than 11 healthcare workers at the site also infected, and less than 11 deaths.
According to the Orange Country Healthcare Agency, the city of Los Alamitos is now reporting 55 cases overall, which includes two more than Thursday. Cypress and La Palma each reported one additional case, which totals 53 in Cypress and 16 in La Palma.
