Volunteers honored for service

The Cypress Recreation and Community Services Commission held its annual awards ceremony on Tuesday, April 15 at the Cypress Community Center to recognize the recipients of the Volunteer Service Award, the Youth Volunteer Service Award and the Outstanding Contribution to the Arts Award.

The 2014 Volunteer Service Award went to Cypress resident Roberta O’Toole, who in addition to being recognized in March as a “Woman of Distinction of the 65th California Assembly District,” was also honored for her service with the Cypress Community Festival Association, West Orange County Community Emergency Response Team (CERT), and the Buddy Box Program (whose volunteers deliver clothing and other supplies to patients at the Long Beach Veterans Administration Hospital).

The 2014 Youth Volunteer Award went to Cypress resident Kylie Tierney for her many hours with the Youth Action Committee – a joint Cypress and La Palma community service program for teens. She also volunteered as a Counselor-In-Training assisting with Cypress Recreation summer classes and programs.

The 2014 Outstanding Contribution to the Arts recipient was City of Orange resident John Brent, who was recognized for his many years of volunteer service with the Cypress Art League.
