In all, eight student athletes from Los Alamitos High committed to a college program on National Signing Day, Feb. 5.

That list included three football players: DeMonte King, Jerry Raye and

Dashawn Gordon.

That list included three football players: DeMonte King, Jerry Raye and

Dashawn Gordon.

King and Raye both play as defensive backs. King chose to attend Montana State while Raye inked is name with Minnesota State. Gordon, on the other hand, played wide receiver and will join Oklahoma State next year.

King earned a spot on the 2013 All-Sunset League First Team. He stands at 6-1 and weighs 190 pounds. He ended his career with 33 tackles, 17 solo tackles, a pair of fumble recoveries, and 10 deflections. He also rushed for over 200 yards when he did use his legs on offense.

Raye was selected to the All-Sunset League Second Team. He served as a punt and kick returner in addition to his duties on defense. He finished with two interceptions, 10 deflections, 41 tackles and 26 solo tackles. He also scored a touchdown returning a kick.

Gordon stands at 5-8 and weighs 160 pounds. He occasionally returned kicks. Gordon leaves behind some incredible numbers, too. He had 130 catches for 1,581 over the course of his career, which also included 14 touchdowns – 11 from the air.

Three soccer players also participated: Carlie Eastwood, Allie Emmons and Sarah Sanger. All three will stay in state but one will head to Northern California while the other two stay local.

Eastwood signed with San Francisco State, Emmons will go to Cal State Long Beach and Sanger committed to Cal State Long Beach. Claire Rainey, who runs both cross-country and track, chose Cal Baptist. Also, Kristen Shuman picked Fordham University, where she will join the crew program.
